Question
How to recover the SafeGuard LANCrypt database after a computer crash (with and without backups)?

Answer
To recover the SafeGuard LAN Crypt Administration you need to have a working database and cryptographic access to it.

  1. In order to recover/access the database, the database must not be corrupt. Ensure that you back-up your database regularly. Please also see the Knowledgebase article What needs to be backed up from the system with SGLC administration
  2. For access to the encrypted information inside the database you need MSO/SO certificates and their responding private keys.
    Be aware of the expiry dates of your MSO/SO certificates and re-assign new certificates in time.
  3. If all MSO/SO certificates are invalid or cannot be accessed any more, access can be granted by using the recovery key.

Do not forget to create the recovery key during the initialization of your SafeGuard LAN Crypt system and store this key safely.

As long as the database is available and you have access to either the MSO/SO certificates or to the recovery key you can install a new SGLC administration and use the existing database.
