Question

What may cause a BSOD with stopcode c000021a when using Secure Auto Logon (SAL) and Password Synchronization of SafeGuard Easy ?

Answer

SafeGuard Easy is installed with activated SAL and Password Synchronization. This means, that after login to the Pre-Boot-Authentication (PBA) of SafeGuard Easy and Windows, the password of the windows login will be synchronized with the SafeGuard Easy credentials.

In case, that the windows user has no password, the system will show a BSOD with stopcode c000021a.

Solution:

Start the machine in safe mode and assign a password to the windows user.

To avoid this error from the start, please make sure, that all windows users have a password when you want to use SAL and Password Synchronization.

Additional information: BSOD with stopcode c0000021a can also appear if SafeGuard Easy was installed without SAL but Password Synchronization takes place for a user that has no Windows Password.

Since version 4.30.1, synchronizing an empty windows password is not resulting in an BSOD any longer. Instead of a BSOD, an exception is shown which states that password contains unsupported characters.
