Hardware upgrades to improve the resilience and scalability of our web servers will shortly take place, starting on 20 September 2006. This will affect the small number of customers who access Sophos websites using an IP address.
Note: The majority of users will not be affected.
The customers affected will be those that:
- access the Sophos Databank or website via its IP address
- have IP address filtering in place at their firewall
for example, some customers who fetch IDEs directly from the Sophos website.
- Wherever possible, you should use DNS names (such as www.sophos.com) rather than IP addresses (such as 184.108.40.206) to reach the Sophos websites in scripts or configuration files. This will ensure that you are always using the correct web server.
- Sophos may use other servers worldwide to deliver our websites, so as to provide a better service.
Important: If you use IP addresses to access the Sophos websites, your virus protection may be affected.
