Uninstalling SafeGuard Configuration Protection v 6.x

The article describes the steps that must be taken to uninstall Sophos SafeGuard Configuration Protection v 6.x.

Important: Uninstalling Sophos SafeGuard Configuration Protection 6.x on a Windows 32-bit client requires a special procedure if the Sophos Anti-Virus Client is also installed on the client computer.

What To Do

Depending on the current installation base, follow one of scenarios below:

Uninstalling SafeGuard Configuration Protection 6.x on Windows 32-bit computers without Sophos Anti-Virus Client

  1. Under "Programs and Features", double-click the Sophos SafeGuard 6.x Client package installed. The installation wizard opens.
  2. In the installation wizard, select the installation type "Modify".
  3. Under Features, deselect the feature "Configuration Protection".
  4. When the uninstall is finished, do not restart the computer.
  5. Uninstall the Sophos SafeGuard Configuration Protection 6.x package (SGNCPClient.msi).
  6. Restart the computer.

Sophos SafeGuard Configuration Protection has now been removed from the computer.

Uninstalling SafeGuard Configuration Protection 6.x on Windows 32-bit computers with Sophos Anti-Virus Client

  1. Download and extract Uninstall_CP_on_SAV.zip* on the client.
  2. Under "Programs and Features", double-click the Sophos SafeGuard 6.x Client package installed. The installation wizard opens.
  3. In the installation wizard, select the installation type "Modify".
  4. Under Features, deselect the feature "Configuration Protection".
  5. When the uninstall is finished, do not restart the computer.
  6. Run Uninstall_CP_on_SAV.cmd (local administrator rights are required). The script will create a backup of the registry and pauses after the operation has completed.
  7. Uninstall the Sophos SafeGuard Configuration Protection 6.x package (SGNCPClient.msi).
  8. Resume the Uninstall_CP_on_SAV.cmd script.
  9. Restart the computer.

Sophos SafeGuard Configuration Protection has now been removed from the computer.

*To retain full functionality of the Sophos Anti-Virus Client, "Uninstall_CP_on_SAV.cmd" will export a backup of the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sophos hive to a temporary location on the machine and restore parts of the registry hive again after the Configuration Protection de-installation is concluded.
