What to do

To check that Sophos Anti-Virus Small Business Edition (SBE) is running correctly on a computer, follow these steps.

Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows 2003

Checking centrally from the Sophos Control Center.

  • Locate the relevant computer in the list in the Sophos Control Center.
  • The 'Up-to-date' column should display 'Yes'
  • The 'Anti-virus' column should display 'Active'.
  • If Sophos Client Firewall is installed on the computer you are checking, the 'Firewall' column should display 'Active'.

Checking at the workstation.

  1. To ensure that the Sophos Anti-Virus on-access scanner (InterCheck) is running, look for the shield icon on the right-hand side of the Windows taskbar. If the shield is blue, the on-access scanner is active; if it is grey, the on-access scanner is not active. For more information, right-click the shield icon.
  2. To ensure that the Sophos Anti-Virus on-demand scanner is installed correctly, at the taskbar select Start|Programs|Sophos|Sophos Anti-Virus|Sophos Anti-Virus. When the user interface has opened up, the Immediate tabbed page should be displayed, and there should be a green tick against the 'C:' or 'Local hard drives' path. The text in the lower window of the scanner should contain a list of additional virus identity (IDE) files that are being used.
  3. To ensure that Sophos Client Firewall is active (if it is installed on that workstation) look for the brick wall icon on the right-hand side of the Windows taskbar. If the wall is blue, the firewall is enabled; if it is grey, the firewall is disabled, if it is red, this indicates that an unauthorized application has tried to gain access. For more information, right-click the wall icon
