Known to apply to the following Sophos product(s) and version(s)

Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS X 9.0.3

What To Do

To create an installer configured with updating details to distribute to end users follow these steps:

  1. Download the Standalone installer for Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS X from the Sophos website
  2. Unzip the downloaded SophosInstaller.zip file revealing 'Sophos Installer.app'
  3. Open Terminal
  4. In Terminal type:
    cd ~/Downloads/Sophos\ Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/

nb.  This command assumes that the standalone installer was downloaded to the currently logged in Users 'Downloads' folder

  5. Run the 'CreateUpdatePreconfig' command with the required arguments.  Information on what arguments can be used can be found later in this article, or by running the following command:

    ./CreateUpdatePreconfig

nb.  This tool must be run with root priveleges, an example of this tools usage is:

sudo ./CreateUpdatePreconfig -PrimaryServerType 0 -PrimaryServerUserName MyUserName -PrimaryServerPassword MyPassword

  6. The credentials have now been added to 'Sophos Installer.app' and can be distributed

The 'CreateUpdatePreconfig' tool can be used in the following manner, using the following arguments:

CreateUpdatePreconfig [-option {value} ...]
the following options can be specified:

'-PrimaryServerUserName' primary server user name
'-PrimaryServerPassword' primary server password
'-PrimaryServerType' primary server type : 0=Sophos, 1=Company Webserver, 2=Network Volume

'-SecondaryServerUserName' secondary server user name
'-SecondaryServerPassword' secondary server password
