Known to apply to the following Sophos product(s) and version(s)

SAV for Mac OS X 9.2.2

What To Do

Adding an Updating Configuration

With Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac version 9.2.2 and above you can create an installer configured with updating details to distribute to end users follow these steps:

Standalone Installer

  1. Download the Standalone installer for Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS X from the Sophos website
  2. Unzip the downloaded SophosInstaller.zip file revealing 'Sophos Installer.app'
  3. Open Terminal
  4. In Terminal type:
    cd ~/Downloads/Sophos\ Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/

nb.  This command assumes that the standalone installer was downloaded to the currently logged in Users 'Downloads' folder

  5. Run the 'CreateUpdatePreconfig' command with the required arguments.  Information on what arguments can be used can be found later in this article, or by running the following command:

    ./CreateUpdatePreconfig

nb.  This tool must be run with root priveleges, an example of this tools usage is:

sudo ./CreateUpdatePreconfig -PrimaryServerType 0 -PrimaryServerUserName MyUserName -PrimaryServerPassword MyPassword

  6. The credentials have now been added to 'Sophos Installer.app' and can be distributed

Managed Installer

  1. In Finder mount the Central Installation Directory (CID) that hosts the Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac installer that you would like to pre-configure
  2. Open Terminal
  3. In Terminal type:
    cd /Volumes/SophosUpdate/CIDs/S000/ESCOSX/Sophos\ Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/

nb.  The 'S000' part of this path would assume that you are modifying the installer in the default subscription.  If you are wanting to modify a different subscription please check the needed path by reviewing the paths in the 'Bootstrap Locations...' window in the Sophos Enterprise Console (View | Bootstrap Locations...)

  5. The credentials have now been added to 'Sophos Installer.app' and can be distributed
