This article explains how batch file parameters should be entered when running installdb.bat, restoredb.bat, backupdb.bat etc. when the default/ nameless instance is involved.

Known to apply to the following Sophos product(s) and version(s)

Enterprise Console 5.1.0
Enterprise Console 5.0.0
Enterprise Console 4.7.1
Enterprise Console 4.7.0
Enterprise Console 4.5.1
Enterprise Console 4.5.0

How to

As an example in this article we will use the batch file InstallDB.bat being run on a member server but the same process can be applied to any SQL-related batch file.

When running installdb.bat with a named instance you can use:

InstallDB.bat [Hostname]\[InstanceName] [DomainName (if DC) | Hostname (if member server)] [DatabaseName]

For example:
InstallDB.bat myServer\sophos myServer SOPHOS51

The above example will create a SOPHOS51 database in a sophos named SQL instance on the computer myServer.  The Windows security group 'Sophos DB Admins' is a local group on myServer.

However if the SQL instance is the default one (i.e has no name or referred to as MSSQLSERVER) then you should use...

InstallDB.bat [Hostname] [DomainName (if DC) | Hostname (if member server)] [DatabaseName]

example: InstallDB.bat myServer myServer sophos51
