Issue

When launching the PureMessage console you see the following error:

Could not connect to master synchronization server. Server: [SERVERNAME]

First seen in

PureMessage for Microsoft Exchange 3.0.2

Operating system
Windows Server

Cause

  • The error referred to an old server name - possibly one that has been decommissioned. Active Directory settings in the Users and Groups section to point to active Domain Controller but the error still occurs.
  • When first installed, PureMessage was configured manually and there were no errors. But the PureMessage configuration was afterwards imported from a different server - leading to above errors.

What To Do

To stop the error message appearing check the GeneralConfig.xml to make sure the config is correct.

  1. Close the console and acknowledge any errors on screen.
  2. Go to: C:\Program Files\Sophos\PureMessage\Config\LastKnown\GeneralConfig.xml
  3. Look for this Line:
    <MasterServer>NAMEOFYOURSERVER</MasterServer>

If this points to an old or incorrect server then this will need to be changed and the file saved.
  4. When you launch the PureMessage console the error message will be gone.
