You've just renewed or upgraded your Endpoint license and you don't know where to enter your new username and password.
This article explains how to locate and change your license details. If you have a single computer with standalone version of Sophos Endpoint Security & Control updating directly Sophos' servers watch the first video below.
Note: This articles does not apply if you are using Sophos Cloud as updating credentials are maintained by us.

Note: The instructions below explain how to change your license details if you have a central console. If you have an unmanaged computer updating directly from Sophos watch the first video above.
Sophos Update Manager
To check or update the credentials that your Sophos Update Manager is using follow the steps below.
- Open the Sophos console.
- From the drop down menu select View | Update Managers (if the option is grayed out you are already in the Update Managers view).
- In the Update Managers pane (beneath the dashboard) you will see the name of your Sophos Update Manager server (typically the hostname of the computer).
- Double-click on the hostname to load the Update Manager Configuration dialog window.
- On the Sources tab, highlight the source named 'Sophos'.
- Click the Edit button.
- Check your username is correct according to your license schedule. If it does not match, then enter the new credentials as shown on the latest license schedule including re-entering your password. Do not copy and paste your credentials into the box.
- Click 'OK' and your Sophos Update Manager will test the credentials by briefly contacting Sophos' data warehouse. If the credentials are correct the dialog box will close.
- Click 'OK' to close your Sophos Update Manager's configuration dialog window.
If the credentials test in step eight above fails, first ensure you have entered your new credentials correctly. Make sure you delete all characters and spaces in the box before you begin to type.
If you are still having problems with your new credentials email email@example.com explaining the problem and provide your new, and if possible, your previous credentials.
Sophos Enterprise Console
If you have any computers that connect directly to Sophos' databanks for updates (i.e., off-site laptops updating from 'Sophos') these policies need to be updated as well. Follow the instructions below to open and edit an AutoUpdate policy.
- Open the Sophos console.
- From the drop down menu select View | Endpoints (if the option is grayed out you are already in the Endpoints view).
- From the 'Policies' panel in the lower left-hand side of the console expand the 'Updating' section.
- Right-click on the name of the policy you want to check/ edit and select 'View/Edit Policy...'
- On the 'Primary Server' tab check if the 'Address' field is set to either 'Sophos' or 'Invalid URI: The hostname could not be parsed.'.
Note: The direct address of 'Invalid URI: The hostname could not be parsed.' should not be used and is unsupported. Therefore ensure the address is corrected to 'Sophos' as required.
- If the address entered points to a Sophos-controlled location confirm the 'Username' field is correct and the same as shown on your current license schedule. If it does not match, then enter the new credentials as shown on the latest license schedule including re-entering your password.
Note: Do not copy and paste your credentials into the box.
- Repeat steps five and six for the 'Secondary Server' tab.
- Click 'OK' to save any changes.
- Repeat steps four to eight for any additional AutoUpdate policies.
Is there a quick way of finding the console policies I need to check (e.g., I have a lot of AutoUpdate policies)?
We have provided the script below to allow you to extract the name of all AutoUpdate policies that use the following addresses:
Important: The script is provided as is and is not supported over networks and/or in conjunction with other tools.
- Download the script from here (right-click the link and save target or link as) .
- Copy the file to the Desktop of the Sophos management server (or SQL server if the database is hosted remotely).
- Rename the file's extension from '.sql.txt' to '.sql'
- Open a command prompt (Start | Run | Type:
cmd.exe | Press return).
- Change directory to the Desktop (e.g.,
- Enter the following command:
sqlcmd.exe -E -S .\sophos -d SOPHOS50 -i findAutoUpdatePoliciesToSophos.sql > SophosSAUPolicies.txt
'.\sophos' is the "location server\ the SQL server instance name"
'SOPHOS50' is the database name.
Note: SOPHOS50 may need to be changed in line with the version of the console being used. See article 17323 for more information on the database names per version.
- Locate the newly created 'SophosSAUPolicies.txt' file on the Desktop and open the file with a text editor (e.g., Notepad.exe).
- View the list of policy names that point to Sophos' databank and use to correct.
Note: You can also open and execute the .sql file in Microsoft Management Studio Express if you prefer.
