Uninstall of PureMessage fails, errors reported

Issue

When you attempt to uninstall PureMessage for Microsoft Exchange the uninstall fails and errors such as any of the following are generated:

  • error 0x80070102
  • Setup was unable to stop services

Cause

One or more file/folder/process is held open by the operating system.

What To Do

  • Restart the PureMessage computer and try again.

If this fails to resolve the problem:

  1. Go to Add/Remove programs, and remove the Sophos components in the following order:
    1. PureMessage
    2. Sophos AutoUpdate
    3. Sophos Anti-Virus
