Sophos Email Appliance: Restoring configuration information to an existing or replacement appliance

Only a Sophos Technical Support engineer can restore configuration information from a backup. There is an exception to the rule: a replacement or new email appliance is available and in operation. You can join that appliance to form a cluster group in which the primary configuration server will synchronize its configuration information to all members of the cluster.

We recommend that administrators enable the backup option as shown in the screen shot above. From this location, you can back up the configuration by clicking the Download button. A dialog box is displayed, prompting you to save or open the file.

If you have requested an RMA from Sophos, you can restore one of two ways. The first method is to join the replacement appliance to the existing appliance, and the configuration will be synchronized.

Method 1 - Restoring by joining an existing appliance

  1. Select Configuration > System > Clustering.

  2. Select the check box to enable the join feature.

Method 2 - Restoring a standalone appliance

If an appliance is faulty and/or unavailable, Sophos Technical Support must assist in configuring from a backup.
