PureMessage for Microsoft Exchange: extending Active Directory schema to support DFS-R

  • Article ID: 57333

Issue
If you are joined to a Windows Server 2000 or Windows Server 2003 non-R2 domain, you must update the Active Directory schema to Windows Server 2003 R2 in order for the Distributed File System Replication (DFSR) service to work.

What to do

To update the Active Directory schema to Windows Server 2003 R2:

  1. On the domain controller that holds the Schema Master Flexible Single Master Operations
(FSMO) role, insert Disc 2 of the Windows Server 2003 R2 media kit.
  2. Run the following command from the \cmpnents\R2\adprep folder on the CD:
    adprep /forestprep

The adprep /forestprep command adds Windows Server 2003 R2 object classes and attributes to Active Directory so that they can be used by the operating system, server roles, and applications.

The schema update is replicated to your domain controllers according to your replication scheme.
