When you install Enterprise Console and PureMessage for Microsoft Exchange onto the same network, you must perform some additional configuration to ensure spam rules are correctly updated.

If you do not configure your computers as described in this article, you could receive error messages indicating that spam rules have failed to update.

Known to apply to the following Sophos product(s) and version(s)

PureMessage for Microsoft Exchange

What to do

You will need the Sophos Anti-Virus username and password that you use for downloads from the Sophos website.

  1. Open Enterprise Console, and create a new group for the PureMessage for Windows/Exchange computers.
  2. Select 'Updating Policy' for this group, and working from the 'Set updating policy for computers in the group...' dialog box, configure the 'Secondary server' as 'Sophos'. Enter the username and password in the relevant sections. If you use a proxy for access, you must also configure that.
  3. Exclude the \Sophos\PureMessage\Temp file from both on-access and on-demand scanning. Details of how to do this are in the Enterprise Console User manual.

Note: If you have Microsoft Exchange server installed on your network, you will need to exclude additional files from on-access scanning.  For details see article 35970.
