What to do

This article illustrates examples of settings and options that you may see during the installation of PureMessage for Microsoft Exchange, version 3. What you actually see will depend on the SQL set-up on the computer you are using. The following are described here:

Installing to a new computer that has no MSDE/SQL instance
Installing to a computer that already has a Sophos instance
Installing to a computer that already has an MSDE/SQL instance other than Sophos (e.g. Backupexec)

Installing to a new computer that has no MSDE/SQL instance

This will create a new SQL2005 Express instance called Sophos. The database installation screen will show the following:

Installing to a computer that already has a Sophos instance

This can be from:

  • an existing Sophos installation that has an associated Sophos instance
  • a manually created Sophos instance
  • a computer running multiple instances where one is called Sophos.

The installation screen will appear as follows:-

Installing to a computer that already has an MSDE/SQL instance other than Sophos (e.g. Backupexec)

This could be an existing Sophos installation using an instance name other than Sophos.
The installation will force you to select the existing instance:

To create a new instance specifically for Sophos:

  1. Browse to the extracted PureMessage version 3 folder 'C:\pmex_30\Resources.
  2. Run the file SQLEXPR.EXE.
  3. Follow the installation instructions given by the wizard.
  4. When the following screen appears, deselect the 'Hide advanced configuration options' box, otherwise it will create a default instance called SQLExpress.

  1. Click Next to continue.
  2. In the 'Named instance' field SQLExpress is displayed by default.
  3. Overwrite this by typing in SOPHOS.

  1. Click Next to continue.
  2. Follow the wizard to complete the installation

The PureMessage install can be run again. This time the Sophos instance will be used.
