PureMessage for Microsoft Exchange: installation of spam rules fails with error 0x80020009

Issue
Installation of spam rules fails. The following error is displayed in the AutoUpdate log:

ERROR: Product installation failed: Sophos PureMessage: 0x80020009

Sophos Product and version
PureMessage for Microsoft Exchange, version 3.

What to do

Re-register Microsoft Core XML Services (MSXML) 6.0

  • Click Start|Run, type the following command, 
  • Regsvr32 "C:\WINDOWS\system32\msxml6.dll"
  • Click OK:

If this fails please download, save and run msxml6_x86.msi from the following Microsoft website:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=d21c292c-368b-4ce1-9dab-3e9827b70604&DisplayLang=en

Click Start|Run, type iisreset and press enter to restart all internet services on the server.
