'Failed to create the virus engine while processing message' error in PureMessage Activity Monitor and SMTPScan.log

Issue

During an update to Sophos Endpoint Security and Control, the below errors are seen in PureMessage's Activity Monitor or SMTPScan.log:

Failed to create the virus engine while processing message '<MessageID@domain.com>' (error: '0x80070002')

Failed to create the content engine while processing message '<MessageID@domain.com>' (error: '0x80070002')

and in ExchangeStoreScan.log:

PureMessage store scanning has encountered an application error (details: 'Failed to initialize Sophos Anti-Virus Interface (SAVI). Please check your Sophos Anti-Virus installation.')

Cause

There is a temporary loss of connection to the scanning engine during the update to Sophos Endpoint Security and Control.

What To Do

These errors identify a temporary issue which will resolve itself without further action, confirm that the errors stop within a few minutes of the update to Sophos Endpoint Security and Control. This issue is currently being investigated.
