How to change the port for an Internet Information Services (IIS) version 7 website

This article describes how to change the port number that a website listens on when using Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager version 7.

In the example below the PureMessage quarantine website is used but the same steps can be used for any IIS version 7 hosted website.

PureMessage for Microsoft Exchange 3.1.0

Operating system
Windows Server2003,
Windows Server 2008,
Windows Server 2008 R2

What to do

  1. On the server running IIS, open the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager (Start | All Program | Administrative Tools | Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager).
  2. In the left hand panel, expand the tree, then beneath the 'Sites' folder locate the Quarantine digest.
  3. Right-click PureMessage Quarantine Digest website and select 'Edit Bindings...'.
  4. Select the 8081 entry and click 'Edit...'.
  5. Click Edit, then change the 'Port:' field to the new port value required.
  6. Click OK, then Close.
  7. In the left hand panel, select the server name at the top of the tree to show the 'Actions' panel on the right-hand panel.
  8. In the right hand panel, on the 'Actions' menu select 'Restart'.

The PureMessage website is now accessible using the new port number.
