Issue

When trying to protect a computer through the Sophos Enterprise Console, the installation fails and you see the error:

[DATE] [TIME] 00000005 Verification of update files failed. The files did not match the manifest.

First seen in

Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+

Cause

The distribution point you are using to protect the computer is corrupted and must be recompiled. The installation files must be downloaded and decoded into the central share.

What To Do

The steps below show how to flush the corrupt files from the server and re-populate the share.

1. Flush the existing share

Windows 2003 server

  • Delete the contents of the following folders:
    1. C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sophos\Update Manager\Working
    2. C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sophos\Update Manager\Update Manager\Warehouse
    3. C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sophos\Update Manager\Update Manager\CIDs

Windows 2008/2012 server

  • Delete the contents of the following folders:
    1. C:\ProgramData\Sophos\Update Manager\Working
    2. C:\ProgramData\Sophos\Update Manager\Update Manager\Warehouse
    3. C:\ProgramData\Sophos\Update Manager\Update Manager\CIDs

2. Re-populate the central share

  • Force an update on this Update Manager via the Update Manager's view in the Enterprise Console.
  • Await for its status to have changed to 'Downloading Binaries' and then to 'Last Updated:...' with a current time.
  • Ensure the warehouse folder is/has been repopulated.
    • Once the download is complete the files within this folder will then be decoded and compiled to create your distribution points that were deleted in step one.

3. Re-protect the computer

From the console re-protect the desired computer as necessary. If the error appears again and the instructions above have been followed, contact Sophos Technical Support.
