Issue

When running the Setup.exe file you see the error:

Failed to copy CRT directory to local machine.
If you do not click 'OK', this message box will close automatically after 60 seconds.

In the Sophos ES Setup.log file you see:

[DATE] [TIME] PM,ERROR,Failed to copy CRT directory to local machine,

First seen in

Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+

Cause

  • The system environmental variable for temp and/or tmp are not set correctly on the endpoint computer.
  • The crt folder cannot be copied to the endpoint computer due to folder permissions.

What To Do

Check the endpoint computer's environmental variable for both temp and tmp.  Confirm they are correct and/or compare with the settings of a working computer.  For further information see Microsoft documentation.

Also check the security permissions on the crt folder (right-click  on the crt folder | Properties | Security | Advanced | Change Permissions).  By default the 'Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent' should be checked.

Note: To locate the crt folder see article 117835.
