Error messages from CABARC.exe sometimes occur when you reboot the endpoint during an assessment

Issue

When rebooting an endpoint computer, that is currently running a Sophos Patch assessment, the following error may occasionally be seen:

CABARC.EXE - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click on OK to terminate the application.

Sophos Endpoint Security and Control 10.0

Cause

The content API is still being run in a thread after a SystemShutdown has been called. So patches are being scanned even when the endpoint is in the final stages of being shut down.

What To Do

If you experience the issue regularly please record the frequency of the error, whether or not it always occurs on system shutdown and the number of computers affected. Then contact Sophos Technical Support with this information.
