Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows: after installing on a standalone computer, updates fail with error message

When installing Sophos Anti-Virus on a standalone computer, the Sophos AutoUpdate component installs OK, but fails to download packages. The error, Could not find source for packages is seen in the ALC.log, and module type is CIDUpdate.

What to do

  • Ensure that you can access via Internet Explorer.
  • Check for other vendors security products, for example a firewall, which is blocking access. Remove these products if they are present. Once removed Sophos Anti-Virus should now update successfully.
