When running a command line scan, the scan fails and you see the error message:

sav32cli.exe has encountered an error and needs to close

Cause

When sav32cli scans a corrupt file or sector it may fail.

What To Do

To determine which file is causing SAV32cli to fail, use the command below. This command displays all files as they are scanned them and lists them in C:\FileError.txt.

  1. In the folder containing sav32cli.exe (such as %programfiles%\Sophos\Sophos Anti-Virus\), run a command prompt.

  2. Type: sav32cli.exe -all -archive -dn -ns -p=C:\FileError.txt

  3. When the scan fails, open C:\FileError.txt. The last file listed is the problem file. If the file is temporary, attempt to remove it and then run another scan. If it is not a temporary file, send it to Sophos Labs to identify it.
