SAV32CLI: 'error initializing detection engine' 0xa0040200 on Windows Vista

Issue
When you try to run SAV32CLI in Safe Mode with Command Prompt on a computer running Windows Vista, you get an error message:

Error code 0xa0040200: Error initializing detection engine

Sophos Product and Version
SAV32CLI version 4.28.0 / Engine version 2.72.0

Operating System
Microsoft Windows Vista

What to do

Select one of the following:

  • Restart the computer and log on using a local or domain Administrator account.
  • Grant temporary Administartor rights to the user. Once the scanning process is successfully carried out, you can then remove the user's account from the Administrators group.

Technical Information
This issue is caused by the user account not having sufficient permission to execute SAV32CLI. Please ensure you have UAC enabled in Windows if you intend to use a Power User account with SAV32CLI.
