Error 0xa004021a when scanning the warehouse or distribution folders for .dat files

Issue

The following errors, mentioning any of the exact file names shown below, are seen in the Sophos Anti-Virus log file (SAV.txt):

  • Scanning "\\[ServerName]\SophosUpdate\CIDs\S000\ENCRYPTION\encclient\SGNClient_x64.msi.0000.dat" returned SAV Interface error 0xa004021a: Sophos Anti-Virus could not proceed, the file was corrupted.
  • Scanning "\\
  • [ServerName]\SophosUpdate\CIDs\S000\ENCRYPTION\encclient\SGNClient.msi.0000.dat" returned SAV Interface error 0xa004021a: Sophos Anti-Virus could not proceed, the file was corrupted.
  • Scanning "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sophos\Update Manager\Update Manager\Warehouse\0ac964878ddac311f7919b1c74a98629x000.dat" returned SAV Interface error 0xa004021a: Sophos Anti-Virus could not proceed, the file was corrupted.
  • Scanning "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sophos\Update Manager\Update Manager\Warehouse\7002d3de7165112a215e4f01940ed01ex000.dat" returned SAV Interface error 0xa004021a: Sophos Anti-Virus could not proceed, the file was corrupted.

Cause

All four files are part of the encryption agent's installer - the first two files mentioned above are the decoded version of the last two.

Due to the file size of the encryption agent's installer (when complete) it is separated into smaller files for transmission.  The encoding of the files causes Sophos Anti-Virus to trigger a 'corrupt' error message.

What To Do

No action is required.  The file is still scanned and there is no problem.

We will look to suppress the error message in a future version of Sophos Anti-Virus.
