Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+: Windows games displayed in quarantine when not run by user

Windows games, and other blocked applications, may be displayed in Quarantine Manager in Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+ regardless of whether they have been run by a user.

This happens when the operating system has accessed that program for backup or other purposes. It may happen with any controlled application, but is most likely to occur with Windows games as they are in the Start Menu structure, and in an area which is frequently accessed by the operating system.

What to do

  • If the problem is with Windows games, or other Windows components, remove them.
  • If the problem is with another type of program, use its uninstaller, or Windows 'Add/Remove programs'.

Note: You must temporarily disable on-access scanning for applications when removing blocked programs.
