Issue
Users report difficulties saving or creating Microsoft Office documents on the filer.

Other symptoms may occur if the user's profile is located on a NetApp filer. These could include difficulties when creating Office components such as Outlook signatures or when performing other file operations.

The NetApp Filer syslog messages log may contain messages similar to the following:

Mon Mar 7 16:19:35 EST [xxxxx: cifs.server.infoMsg:info]: CIFS: Warning for server \\XXXXXXXXX: Connection terminated.
Mon Mar 7 16:19:35 EST [xxxxx: vscan.dropped.connection:warning]: CIFS: Virus scan server \\XXXXXXXX (192.168.2.1) has disconnected from the filer

What to do

To confirm whether this issue is present, the below test can be performed:

  1. Run the following command on the filer:
    options cifs.smb2.enable off
  2. Check to see if the issue is still occurring.
  3. Run the following command to return the filer to the original state:
    options cifs.smb2.enable on

If the issue stops when you run the command in step 1, this confirms that you are experiencing the issue described in the NetApp article linked to above. If this is the case, you should contact NetApp technical support to discuss the issue further.
