Issue
Following the upgrade of Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux to version 7.3.0, you see the following error in the logs:

Wed 02 Feb 2011 04:26:17 PM GMT: savd.scanner.exception An unknown exception has occured (EXCEPTION-STA101) at /SAVLinux/10_7.1.3/working_copy/modules/ScanProcessor/TalpaScanTaskImpl/TalpaPacket.cpp:131
Wed 02 Feb 2011 04:26:18 PM GMT: savd.scanner.died A scan processor unexpectedly terminated with status code: 0.

Cause
This error occurred because the SAV-supplied devices in /dev were renamed from /dev/talpa-* to /dev/sophos-*. At one point during the installation the new devices were already in place, but the rest of the product that still had to be upgraded did not yet know about these new names and was therefore producing an error. After the upgrade was complete and SAV was restarted this issue was solved automatically.

What to do

This error is expected and may be ignored. No further action is required.

We don't plan any further device renamings in the foreseeable future, so customers should not see any other errors like this in the future. If you do see this error and it is not related to an upgrade to SAV 7.3.0, another serious issue with your software must have happened and you should contact Sophos Support for further analysis.
