Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS X: scanning infected file in 'Finder' produces further scans and alerts

  • Article ID: 57635
  • Updated: 30 Apr 2009

The following applies if you perform a scan in the 'Finder':

When you perform a ctrl/right-click scan, if the file you select is infected, then a desktop alert from the on-access scanner is displayed. The item will also be scanned by the on-demand scanner.

If you select a volume or folder to scan and it contains an infected file, this issue does not occur.

What to do

Do one of the following:

  • disable the on-access scanner before performing a 'Finder' scan
  • scan the enclosing directory instead of the file itself
  • use Sweep or a configured scan
