Issue
When attempting to remove Enterprise Console from your server, you see the following error:

This setup requires administrator privileges

Known to apply to the following Sophos product(s) and version(s)

Enterprise Console 4.7.0
Enterprise Console 4.5.0

Operating system
Microsoft Windows Vista, and above

Cause
This issue is caused by an interaction between User Access Control (UAC) in Windows and the Enterprise Console installation program.

What to do

You will need to run the setup program, located in the installation directory, to remove Enterprise Console. It is found at C:\sec_45\ServerInstaller.

If you don't have this directory on the server, either:

  • Turn off User Access Control (UAC), which will require a reboot after switching it off.

    1. To switch off UAC, click Start | Control Panel | User Accounts.

    2. Click 'Change User Access Settings' (or 'Change User Account Settings', the name varies with the operating system) and, depending on the version of Windows, select the most permissive setting.

      Windows will alert you that you need to reboot the computer.

    3. When the computer has rebooted, remove Enterprise Console.

      Remember to reset UAC when it has finished uninstalling.

  • Follow this procedure to uninstall (by running MsiExec as an Administrator and calling the product GUID to uninstall):

    1. Launch a command prompt as Administrator (Start | right-click CMD.exe and choose “Run as Administrator”).

    2. Find the version of Enterprise Console you are trying to uninstall and type the appropriate command into the command prompt window:

      Enterprise Console 4.7
      Msiexec.exe /I{871A6A3D-B431-41EF-B043-AA90D7A463BB}

      Enterprise Console 4.5

      MsiExec.exe /i {8B7F7768-C896-4E05-A49A-BB2939FC41D4}

      Enterprise Console 4
      MsiExec.exe /i {E09FDEB2-D2F8-41E7-9E44-686F5F391AE4}

    3. Proceed through the wizard to uninstall Enterprise Console.
