On Enterprise Console, either of the following messages might be displayed in the console as hyperlinked error codes:

0xa04b0011 Threat 'x' could not be cleaned up because it is no longer in the quarantine list on this computer.
0xa04b0012 Threat 'x' in 'y' could not be cleaned up because it is no longer in the quarantine list on this computer.

This happens in one of the following circumstances

  • the user on that computer has cleared an existing alert
  • there are more than 100 alerts on that computer.

What to do

  1. From Enterprise Console, set up a scheduled scan on the affected computer, timed to run in the next few minutes.
    • If the alert was cleared by the user, it will reappear.
    • If there are more than 100 alerts on that computer, the alert in question will not reappear, but there will be many others.
  2. Clean up all items that you can. This should remove any threat that caused an alert that was suppressed by a user. This will also clear up to 100 threats on a heavily affected computer.
  3. Run another scan.
  4. If you still cannot see the threat mentioned in the error message on the affected computer, check directly on the computer. It either has well over 100 separate threat files, or a different issue.

Technical details

With Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+, version 6, if a new scan detects more than 100 threats, previously detected items are lost from the quarantine manager. If there were already items listed in the quarantine manager, and more than 100 items are reported in the 'Viruses' or 'Applications' tabs in a subsequent scan, the previously detected items will no longer be listed as infected. However, this information will still be in the log.

The following error message will be displayed when Sophos Anti-Virus is opened on the affected computer:

The number of threats on this page is now greater than the maximum that Quarantine manager can display.
Quarantine manage has started discarding older threats from the list when new threats are detected.
If you deal with some of the threats shown, older threats will be displayed in the list again the next time an on-demand or scheduled scan is run.
