Issue

In the Enterprise Console, when you attempt to open a 'Full disk encryption' policy you see the following error:

Encryption is not available in Sophos Enterprise Console.
Either your license does not include encryption or you manage encryption with SafeGuard Enterprise.

First seen in

Enterprise Console 5.1.0

Cause

  • During the installation of the console your did not select the encryption component.
  • The 'Sophos Encryption Business Logic Service' is not present or not started.

What To Do

This may require no action as it is expected behavior.

If you are license for Sophos Disk Encryption as managed from Enterprise Console you need to choose to install encryption as part of the installation or upgrade.

Note: The option to do so is dependent on the system checks as listed in article 113945. For example, if you are already running Safeguard Policy Editor on the computer you will not be prompted to install the encryption component.

If you chose not to add encryption to the install but now wish to do so, you can re-run the installer (likely to be here: 'C:\sec_51\ServerInstaller\Setup.exe') and choose encryption when prompted.
