This is a Known Issue which may be seen by users of Sophos Control Center, version 4.x, following the automatic upgrade to Sophos Anti-Virus v.9.5.x, the rollout of which commences 16 November 2010. This is as described in the Advisory published in October 2010.
When you attempt to use the new functionality which allows the firewall to run on 64 bit computers, you are unable to deploy the firewall to 64 bit XP computers. The Sophos network protection wizard opens a dialog box 'Computers where the firewall cannot be installed', this contains a list of these computers, with the message:
The Firewall installation is not possible on Windows XP x64
NOTE: This issue only applies to 64 bit XP computers where the firewall can only be deployed by running the setup.exe on the client computer (see What to do below).
It does not apply to 64 bit Vista and Windows 7 computers - you can deploy to these from the Sophos Control Centre (or by running setup.exe if you wish). 32 bit operating systems, including 32 bit Windows XP, continue to be fully deployable from the Sophos Control Centre.
Known to apply to the following Sophos product(s) and version(s)
Sophos Control Center v 4.x with Sophos Anti-Virus 9.5.x
All supported operating systems
