Question

What is the difference between create key and createrawkey in SafeGuard Removable Media?

Answer

The difference between createkey and createrawkey is the fact that when using createkey, the key will be fabricated will be a unique one that cannot be cloned in any way.

So in cases where you want to have a key that can be multiple distributed, the createrawkey function needs to be used.

Technically this would mean:

CreateKey
This command creates a new key in the user’s key-ring
SGRMCMD CREATEKEY KeyName KeyValue [-E] [-H] [-L]
The key that is created by this command will be build up like: LOCAL_[KEYNAME]@DATETIME

The Key-GUID is generated automatically to ensure unique keys.

CreateRawKey
This command creates a new key in the user’s key-ring with the given GUID and value.
SGRMCMD CREATERAWKEY KeyName KeyGUID KeyValue [-E] [-H] [-L]

This command is intended for recreation of exactly the same key as is available on another machine (i.e. cloning of a key).
The Key-GUID is created manually when using this command.
