You might not be able to decrypt a self-extracting “*.EXE” archive correctly.

Sophos product and version
Sophos Free Encryption version 2.40.0
SafeGuard PrivateCrypto version 2.40.0

Operating system
All supported Microsoft Windows versions

What to do

Please update to the latest version (at least 2.40.1), which you can download here:

http://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/free-tools/sophos-free-encryption.aspx  

Technical information
The issue only occurs for self-extracting “.EXE” files. Standard “.UTI” archives are not affected.

If you already have a self-extracting “.EXE” file that you cannot decrypt, it can be converted and corrected using the tool available below. The tool will convert the “.EXE” file in a standard “.UTI” file which you can open again using the main application.
