SafeGuard LAN Crypt Client 3.71: Improved support for short path names - 8.3 notation

  • Article ID: 110253
  • Updated: 15 Apr 2010

Issue
With previous versions of SafeGuard LAN Crypt Client, files which were accessed via a short path name (e.g. C:\DOKUME~1 instead of “C:\Documents and Settings”) were only recognised by LAN Crypt if a rule was defined on the short path name in addition to the long path name.

SafeGuard LAN Crypt Client version 3.71 only needs a rule to be defined on the long path name, it can then apply this to the short path name.

The following restrictions apply in relation to short path names:

  • The path used in the encryption rule must exist at profile load time (except paths on shares).
  • The path used in the encryption rule must not be renamed after the profile was loaded, otherwise the short path name may not work anymore on this path.
  • For absolute path rules the short path name is also handled (relative path rules are only recognised according to the way they are entered during profile creation) .

Known to apply to the following Sophos product(s) and version(s)
