What can be done to solve the logon issue ?


When installing PC Anywhere from Symantec after SSophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption a problem can occur with the GINA-cascade. When loging on to Windows a message is displayed stating that the GINA cascade is invalid and that you need administrator rights to repair this . It is not possible for users to log on to the system.
The reason for this is that both programs, Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption (SGGina) and PC Anywhere (AWGina) are designed to co-operate with other products using their own Gina. This means that Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption and PC Anywhere try to load other Ginas after their own (creating an endless loop). Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption loads the Gina from PC Anywhere and PC Anywhere loads the Gina from Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption again. To solve this problem this endless loop has to be removed. This can be done by deleting the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\pcAnywhere\CurrentVersion\System\GinaDLL which has
"SGGINA.DLL" as Reg_SZ value.

The same procedure for Windows 2000 / Windows XP Professional.
