Question

How to solve SDE1031 Setup Error?

Answer

I have installed Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption (SDE) on an EFS encrypted folder and now I cannot log on to the system anymore.

SDE error message on first reboot: "CrkSetupKernel failed ...... , result 1031"

Win2000 / Windows XP error message: "The Logon User Interface DLL SGGINA.DLL failed to load."
You should not try to install Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption into an EFS encrypted folder. If you did so, connect via network to the PC from another machine and delete the registry key below:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]

"GinaDLL"="SGGINA.DLL"

to solve your problem.
