Question

Does Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption support the ISO/IEC 10646-2:2001 standard ?

Answer

It is not possible for SDE to fully support the ISO/IEC 10646 standard, because the main component of Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption works on the Pre Boot Authentication Level (PBA).

This is a low level integration (Assembler --> no Windows API´s or Operating System available). Therefore Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption uses keyboard scan codes for the password entry.
The advantage of scan codes are to be independent from the keyboard vendors (in the PBA level). This should not be a problem to customers, since SDE acts locally on one harddisk and does not exchange texts or database fields with machines in potential other countries, where this standard might become relevant.
