Question

Is it possible to use Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption Emergency Tools without a floppy drive?

Answer

Ever more notebook manufacturers have stopped providing devices with floppy disk drives or are only supplying them at an extra charge.

Since version 4.60, the Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption product CD-ROM itself can be used as boot media. Verify the boot order in the BIOS of your machine (CD-ROM before hard disk), insert the Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption CD-ROM and restart the computer. The emergency tools will now load a version of FreeDOS directly from CD.

Note:
CD-ROMs containing the Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption IBM / Lenovo version are not bootable. If you have such a version, please search the knowledge database for the keywords "bootable rescue image".
