Product
Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption 4.60

Client OS

Windows 2000 Professional SP4, Windows XP SP3

Server OS

None

Question

What is causing this?

Answer

It is simply not possible to initiate an emergency uninstall of Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption using a CRC in the PBA. This code may only be used by a user already logged on to the operating system.

Since I’m not able to logon to the Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption Pre-Boot-Authentication (PBA), I attempted to uninstall SDE by using a CRC in the PBA. For this reason, I created a CRC with the remote command “Uninstall”. But, every time I enter this code, I get the following error message: “Invalid Response Code. Please try again”.

In order to uninstall Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption without having the appropriate rights, a user may use the challenge/response function (offered when “Start\Programs\Sophos\Uninstall” was started) to "order" a code which gives the authorization to uninstall to the user.

Or, you may use Add/Remove programs and try to uninstall Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption.

The results are the same. It is not possible to remove SDE without the uninstall right.
