Question

How can I solve the problem?

Answer

An error occurred while reading an environment variable from the registry. The size of the entry could not be determined.

During Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption setup the environment variable path is extended with the path of Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption installation folder. The already existing value of environment variable “PATH” is read from the Registry [SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment].

Most frequent reasons for this error are either missing of this value in the registry or excess of the maximum size readable by Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption. Add the missing value to the registry to solve this problem or try shortening it (at least during installation of Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption) if it is too long.

If environment variable “PATH” contains more than 254 characters, SDE is not able to add its registration. To install Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption successful, the maximum of 254 characters may not be exceeded (including the entry of Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption).
