Question

Is it possible to boot from another medium than a floppy disk after the PBA?

Answer

Yes, it is possible to boot from another medium.

You can boot from a bootable CD or DVD. In order to achieve that you must follow these steps:

- Boot up to the PBA

- Enter your credentials (user SYSTEM or a user with explicit rights to boot after PBA from CD/DVD) when prompted

- Insert the bootable CD/DVD

- Press F7

Now the system will be booted from the CD/DVD.

It depends on the workstation’s BIOS support if an emergency boot from CD/DVD can be performed successfully.

Please note: If you also need to access encrypted data on the harddisk you have to implement Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption encryption drivers to the bootable medium (e.g. BartPE, Windows PE). In order to achieve this see also SGI 109288 "How to make a bootable BartPE CD with SDE drivers".
