Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption 4.60
Windows 2000 Professional SP4, Windows XP SP3
What can be the cause and how can I solve it?
After installing Sophos SafeGuard Disk Encryption and encrypting the harddrive, the system sometimes crashes with the following BSOD:
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL "sys-file of used algorithm" (for example AES256.sys).
This behaviour can be caused through a change of the "Memory usage" setting to "System Cache". To fix this issue just set this value back to the default ("Programs").
1. Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl, and then click OK.
2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. In the Performance area, click Settings.
4. Click the Advanced tab.
5. In the Memory usage area, choose "Programs":
--> Programs will run faster, and the system cache will be the default size that came with Windows XP.
It is also possible to check/change the value into the registry.
Programs: 0 (default)
System Cache: 1
System cache mode is designed for use with Windows server products that act as servers. System cache mode is also designed for limited use with Windows XP, when you use Windows XP as a file server. This mode is not designed for everyday desktop use.
