Logging SafeGuard Enterprise installations

Issue
We recommend that you configure the installation procedure to ensure that a log file is generated, especially, if you are running an unattended installation. This will help you troubleshoot in the event of any problems.

What To Do

We recommend that you configure the installation procedure to ensure that a log file is generated, especially if you are running an unattended installation. We consider it best practice to proceed as described here.

Briefly, the installation should include these basic steps:

  • Activate Microsoft Installer logging before the (un)installation of SafeGuard Enterprise
  • (Un)install SafeGuard Enterprise
  • De-activate Microsoft Installer logging after the (un)installation of SafeGuard Enterprise

Using the command line
To log the installation of any SafeGuard Enterprise package via the command line, the following parameters can be used:

msiexec /i [SafeGuard Enterprise Package Name].msi /qn /L*vx %SystemRoot%\SGN_INST.log

This command will create the MSI-logfile %SystemRoot%\sgn_inst.log.

Using the registry/group policies
It is also possible to activate MSI logging via the registry and/or group policies.
