What To Do

1. Checked whether the Quarantine digest page can be loaded on the Server hosting PureMessage

Attempt to navigate to the Quarantine digest page on the PureMessage server hosting IIS. If the page fails to load with the same error then please move to step 6.

2. Check that the Quarantine Digest Web is running

Go to Start|Programs|Administrative Tools|Internet Services Manager.

Select your web-server. If the Quarantine Digest Web is not running, it will show the word 'Stopped' after its name. If necessary start it up.

3. Check the Firewall settings

If you have a Firewall enabled on the PureMessage server then please ensure that the Quarantine digest port is not being blocked. By default this will be port 8081.

4. Check Internet Explorer Proxy settings

If a proxy server is used to access the Internet, then the most likely cause of the error message is due to an exclusion not having been set-up within the exceptions sections of the Internet Explorer Proxy settings section:

  1. Open Internet Explorer and navigate to Tools|Internet Options|Connections| LAN Settings|Advanced.
  2. In the Exceptions field, enter everything in the digest URL (above) to the left of the :8081.  For example, from the above, enter, http://servername.domain.com
  3. Press OK, to exit and then close Internet Explorer and retry. This will resolve the issue in the majority of cases. If this does not resolve the issue, check that the Quarantine Digest Web is running:

5. Confirm that the correct port is set

IIS 6:

  1. From Windows Control Panel, go to Administrative Tools|Internet Services Manager.
  2. Right click on the Quarantine Digest Website and select Properties
  3. Select the Web site tab and locate the 'TCP port'

IIS 7 and above:

  1. From Windows Control Panel, go to Administrative Tools|Internet Services Manager.
  2. Select the Quarantine Digest Website
  3. On the right hand menu select 'Bindings..'
  4. This should display the port that is in use

Confirm that the port set in IIS matches the port that appears in the URL sent in the email. If the port does not match you will need to change the port

6. Check permissions in Internet information Services

IIS 6:

  1. From Windows Control Panel, go to Administrative Tools|Internet Services Manager.
  2. Click on the webserver to show the other virtual webs.
  3. Right-click on Quarantine Digests and click Properties|Directory Security.
  4. In the Authentication and Access Control area, click the Edit button.
  5. Ensure that Integrated Windows Authentication is selected.

IIS 7 and above:

  1. From Windows Control Panel, go to Administrative Tools|Internet Services Manager.
  2. Select the Quarantine Digests and click Authentication
  3. Ensure that 'Anonymous Authentication' and 'Windows Authentication' are Enabled

If you receive the additional error, HTTP 403.1 Forbidden: Execute Access Forbidden, also:

IIS 6:

  1. From Windows Control Panel, go to Administrative Tools|Internet Services Manager.
  2. Select the Quarantine Digests and click Properties|Home Directory.
  3. Under the Application Settings tab, ensure that 'Execute Permission' reads, 'Scripts only'.

IIS 7 and above:
