Issue

Cisco VPN Client is detected as a controlled application and blocked from executing.

First seen in

Enterprise Console

Cause

On the 30th May 2012 Sophos released VDL4.78G with a new Application Control rule set, which included a detection for Cisco VPN Client.

If the Application control policy within Enterprise Console has been configured to block "All added by Sophos in the future" within the Proxy / VPN tool application type, then the Cisco VPN Client application will be blocked from executing.

Currently the detection of Cisco VPN Client has been disabled so customers can use this application.

Due to customer feedback, detection of Cisco VPN Client will be removed from Application Control in the VDL 4.80G release due at the end of July. Therefore Application Control will not detect this application to allow or block it from executing.

For more information on the monthly Application Control list updates please see the SophosTalk pages.
