Sophos Disk Encryption (full disk encryption managed for Sophos Enterprise Console) is no longer available to purchase. As previously notified Sophos will continue to support Sophos Disk Encryption until end March 2016.

As a result of this there is a requirement to migrate Sophos Disk Encryption endpoints to Safeguard Enterprise by following the steps described in "5 - Sophos Disk Encryption to SafeGuard Enterprise" in the 'What To Do' section below. It is not necessary to de-encrypt and re-encrypt the endpoints.

When following the steps in the linked guide to migrate Sophos Disk Encryption Clients to SafeGuard Enterprise (included in the SafeGuard Disk Encryption Advanced license), the client version remains on 5.61.0.25 and will not be upgraded to the latest SafeGuard Enterprise Client version 6.10.0.372.

The Knowledge Base Article explains the required steps to upgrade the Sophos Disk Encryption 5.61 Client to SafeGuard Enterprise 6.10.0.372.

Upgrading SafeGuard Disk Encryption 5.61 to SafeGuard Enterprise 6.10 without following the described steps in the "What To Do" section can result in a client/server communication issue.

If the Endpoints were already upgraded from Sophos Disk Encryption 5.61 to SafeGuard Enterprise 6.10 without following the steps described in this Knowledge Base Article, refer to article 120980 - "After upgrading Sophos Disk Encryption 5.61 to SafeGuard Enterprise 6.10, the SafeGuard Client receives policies from the SafeGuard Enterprise Server and the Sophos Enterprise Console" - to correct the communication issue that might exist after the upgrade.

Cause

During the upgrade of Sophos Disk Encryption 5.61 to SafeGuard Enterprise 6.10 without applying the steps in the "What To Do" section, the Sophos Disk Encryption adapter (SEA_RMS_Adaptern.dll) will be restored, causing the Endpoint to communicate with both, the new SafeGuard Enterprise Server and the old Sophos Enterprise Console.

What To Do

Follow the steps described in chapter "5 - Sophos Disk Encryption to SafeGuard Enterprise" of the Sophos Disk Encryption License migration guide, to migrate the Sophos Disk Encryption 5.61 Clients from the Sophos Enterprise Console to the SafeGuard Enterprise Environment.

After the steps have been carried out successfully, the Sophos Disk Encryption 5.61 Client can be upgraded to SafeGuard Enterprise 6.10.0.372 using the following procedure:

  1. Download SDE561toSGN610.zip
  2. Install the SafeGuard Enterprise 6.10 Windows Installer client package on the Endpoint using the Windows Installer Transform file above (Example: C:\Install\>msiexec /i SGNClient_x64.msi TRANSFORMS=C:\Install\SDE561toSGN610.mst)

If required, the SafeGuard Enterprise 6.10 Client Setup can be customized using Windows Installer ADDLOCAL command line parameters. See Knowledge Base Article 108426 "SafeGuard Enterprise Client: description of ADDLOCAL command line parameters for installation" for examples and details.

Hint: Upgrading the Client from Sophos Disk Encryption 5.61 to SafeGuard Enterprise 6.10 without applying the steps above can lead to server communication issues, causing the client to communicate with both, the new SafeGuard Enterprise Server and the old Sophos Enterprise Console.

If the Clients were already upgraded to SafeGuard Enterprise 6.10 without following the steps above, refer to Knowledge Base Article 120980 - "After upgrading Sophos Disk Encryption 5.61 to SafeGuard Enterprise 6.10, the SafeGuard Client receives policies from the SafeGuard Enterprise Server and the Sophos Enterprise Console" - to correct the communication issue.

Once available, Sophos Disk Encryption 5.61 clients can be upgraded directly to SafeGuard Enterprise 7.0 without applying the transform file above.
