Parental Control users on Mac OS X 10.6 are unable to browse to any website.

Mac OS X 10.6

Cause

The way in which web browsing is controlled with Parental Control on Mac OS X 10.6 is incompatible with the Web Protection feature in Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS X version 9.0.x and above.

What To Do

The Administrator must make a choice about which protection feature they wish to use.

Use Parental Controls

Sophos recommends that Mac OS X 10.6 systems where Parental Control users are going to log in are placed in a separate group within Sophos Enterprise Console, and are provided an 'Anti-Virus and HIPS' policy where both 'Web Protection' options are disabled.

Do not use Parental Controls

Disable Parental Controls for all users of OS X 10.6 systems.  Ensure that the 'Web Protection' options within the 'Anti-Virus and HIPS' policy are enabled.
