How to disable Tamper Protection when managed from the Sophos Cloud

Sophos Tamper Protection prevents unauthorized users from changing Sophos Endpoint Security and Control settings and uninstalling the software.

This article explains how to disable tamper protection for computers managed from Sophos Cloud so local configuration changes can be made, or the software can be successfully uninstalled.

Known to apply to the following Sophos product(s) and version(s)

Sophos Cloud Managed Endpoint

Disable Tamper Protection locally for one computer (recommended)

Retrieve the default tamper protection password from your Sophos Cloud

  1. Open the Sophos Cloud interface and login.
  2. From the menu select 'Users & Devices' and then 'Tamper Protection'.
  3. Click on 'Show' to display the 'Current password' in clear text.
  4. Make a note of this password.

Disable Tamper Protection on the computer

Disable Tamper Protection centrally from Sophos Cloud (not recommended)

Note: This will disable Tamper Protection for all computers managed by Sophos Cloud so is not the recommended option

  1. Open the Sophos Cloud interface and login.
  2. From the options select 'Users & Devices' and then 'Tamper Protection'.
  3. Clear the 'Enable Tamper Protection' check-box

All managed computers will implement the configuration change when they next check with the broker.
