This article describes how to enable or disable email alerts for updates. These instructions assumes that SMTP options, including recipient addresses and the SMTP server, have been configured. For more details please see the product documentation:

What to do
Standalone Sophos Anti-Virus
By default, a Sophos Anti-Virus 9.x installation will send email alerts only when an error is encountered.
- To enable/disable e-mail alerts for other events (such as a successful update) run:
/opt/sophos-av/bin/savconfig set NotifyOnUpdate <true/false>
- To enable/disable further alerts for every update check (even when no update is downloaded), run:
/opt/sophos-av/bin/savconfig set NotifyOnUpdateCheck <true/false>
Managed Sophos Anti-Virus
An Enterprise Console managed client will send e-mail alerts for successful updates, based on the default Enterprise Console configuration. To disable this centrally using Sophos Enterprise Console, follow these steps:
- Edit the relevant 'Updating' policy.
- Click on the 'Logging' tab.
- Deselect the 'Log Sophos AutoUpdate activity' option.
Note: The 'Log Sophos AutoUpdate activity' option does not disable Logging on Linux/Unix systems - It simply disables
NotifyOnUpdate. However, this option will turn off logging for other platforms (e.g. Windows). We recommend you create a separate updating policy for Linux/Unix endpoints if you are disabling this option.
